The Big Brief On Getting You And Your Child Ready For Kindergarten
Do you have a child who will be entering kindergarten? If so, you likely have mixed emotions and may not know what to expect. The schools in your area are good resources to use to learn more about kindergarten. The following points can also be useful.
Routines
It is ideal to start planning and practicing your daily home routines before your child starts kindergarten school. This will aid in helping them to know what to expect each day. Disorganization can make your child irritable at home and at school. Ensure you set a bedtime, wake-up time, bathtime, dinnertime, and homework time so they are in your plans. Every day will not be perfect, but try to be as close as possible to your set schedule.
Meet and Greet
The day you meet your child's teacher will likely happen before the first day of school. Most schools have what is referred to as an "Open House." Use the time to ask questions that you have prepared in advance. Aim to get an email address for communication. During the school year, some teachers are too busy to answer or make calls unless they are urgent. You will likely be given papers that need to be signed. Ensure you fill them out and put them in your child's backpack on the first day of school if they will be a bus rider.
School Supplies
The teacher will likely give you a list of school supplies, and the teacher may also have a list of classroom supplies that can be optionally donated. If your budget permits, get your child a double set of the school supplies. You can leave one at school and have another at home as a back-up if needed. Children can lose or damage items throughout the year, and you will be prepared for the unfortunate.
Breakfast and Lunch
Decide in advance if your child will eat breakfast and lunch at school. Perhaps you plan to let them eat there sometimes and pack their lunch at other times. If your child has allergies or is a picky eater, it may be best to fix their breakfast before they leave. You can pack a lunch for school. Hungry children may be irritable or distracted from learning. Notify the school of food allergies if your child will eat at school. Provide epinephrine if needed in the case of an emergency.
School Naps
Some kindergarten schools do not have nap time. They generally have rigorous education plans. Your child may need more sleep at night if they will not have a nap time. If there is a nap time, be prepared to send your child an appropriate-sized blanket and possibly a mat to nap on.
